SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Reduced total operating costs by 20%.  Designed, presented and won acceptance for implementation of a fully integrated automated system.  Supervised the installation of the 17 workstation, medium size server, and Novell network.
  • Increased return on assets by $250,000 per year.  Instituted asset/liability management portfolio, taking advantage of short and long-term investment opportunities.
  • Generated additional revenue for company through design and implementation of a product catalogue containing 7,000 items that were capable of being updated on a regular basis.
  • Restructured management hierarchy to enable the decision making process to continue uninterrupted without reliance on the presence of any one individual.  Improved productivity, communications and morale.  Established and utilized problem solving and strategy planning teams.
  • Negotiated with three union locals (two United Rubber Workers locals and one Teamsters local).  Served as a member of the Management Union Negotiating Team.  Achieved settlement favorable to the company, while providing for the needs of the union members.
  • Improved Productivity of warehouse operations, decreasing order-filling errors by as much as 92%.  Redesigned physical layout of the inventory, labeling and identification systems.  Integrated ordering with warehousing in real-time mode.
  • Saved the company over $65,000 in penalties by initiating an internal audit to contest a state revenue department ruling.  Court found that the in-house audit held greater validity than that of the revenue department.  Court upheld my findings and ruled in the company's favor.
  • Directed the conversion of five operating divisions' functions from a hard copy manual system to a fully integrated automated system.  Designed time-line and established schedules, utilizing the abilities of every employee (94) from senior management to clerical personnel.  Brought all operations on-line in one weekend, allowing company to continue business without interruption.

CAREER OVERVIEW

As a consultant and co-owner of Woods & Associates, 1991-present, a corporate management and data processing consulting firm, responsibilities have been varied.  Actions include developing management structure and accounting procedures with emphasis on the strategic planning / development of technology and its effective integration into the work place.  Expertise in assisting clients and staff in their efforts to adapt to changes has become a specialty.

As a result of the relationship developed as a consultant with Burnstine's Distributing Corporation, I was offered and accepted the position of Controller.  Within six months, became Chief Operating Officer, 1989-1991.  Primary area of responsibility included day-to-day operating management.

While with Berkey & Associates as a Consultant, 1986-1991, formulated corporate policies, procedures and financial structures within integrated, automated environments.  Continued to assist clients and maintained affiliations in understanding with Burnstine's Distributing Corporation.

Held a series of progressively responsible positions with Western Rubber Company, 1966-1986, culminating in the position of Director of Financial Services.  Responsible for all financial functions, negotiating pension and benefit programs, accounting, audit preparations, asset/liability management, including all leasing and purchasing agreements.  Earlier positions included Director of Administrative Services, Accounting Department Manager, and Accounting/Payroll clerk.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Received Associate Bachelor of Science, Business Management/Accounting, International Business College, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 1982.  Additional Course work completed at Indiana University in Psychology and Management, and Computer Science at Ivy Technical Institute.
